Shadow Case and Distance Based Problem Shortcuts
The shadow of a person ot thing as always appear in the opposite direction from the light source.
In morning/ Sunrise time
Shadow during the time of Sunrise: During the sunrise, the shadow of an object will always be towards west.
- If a person facing towards Sun, the shadow will be towards his back or in west.
- If a person facing towards South, the shadow will be towards his right.
- If a person facing towards West, the shadow will be towards his front.
- If a person facing towards North, the shadow will be towards his left.
In evening/ Sunset time
Shadow during the time of Sunrise: During the sunset, the shadow of an object will always be towards east.
- If a person facing towards Sun, the shadow will be towards his back or in East.
- If a person facing towards North, the shadow will be towards his right.
- If a person facing towards East, the shadow will be towards his front.
- If a person facing towards South, the shadow will be towards his left.
Note: During 12 PM at noon, there will be no shadow because at that time the rays of the sun are vertically downward.
Example(1): One evening Rama and Ajay were talking to each other face to face. If shadow of Ajay was exactly to the right of Ajay, then which direction was Rama facing?
Answer: Rama was facing south direction.
Example(2): At sunrise, Reetu and Nancy are having a conversation standing in front of each other. The shadow of Nancy is formed towards the right hand of Reetu. What direction is Nancy facing?
Answer: Nancy was facing North Direction.
