Types of Cyber Attacks
A cyber-attack is an exploitation of computer systems and networks. It uses malicious code to alter computer code, logic or data and lead to cybercrimes, such as information and identity theft. Cyber-attacks can be classified into two parts Web-based attacks and System-based attacks.
Web-Based Attacks
These are the attacks which occur on a website or web applications. Some of the important web-based attacks are given below
- Injection attacks
- DNS Spoofing
- Session Hijacking
- Phishing
- Brute force
- Denial of Service
- Dictionary attacks
- URL Interpretation
- Man in the middle attacks

Man in the middle attacks
Let’s look at an example to understand this better. Suppose you want to do an online transaction and you connect to your bank and make the payment. Now, while you are completing the transaction, you have to put in credit card details and the PIN. The attacker can spoof you and monitor your transaction. As soon as you put in your details, he will see them.
System-Based Attacks
These are the attacks which are intended to compromise a computer or a computer network. Some of the important system-based attacks are given below;
- Virus
- Worm
- Trojan horse
- Backdoors
- Bots
